GUIDED DIY BRANDING FOR NON-DESIGNERS

Build your own logo and brand, with an expert by your side.

You have an idea and access to plenty of design tools, but you may not have the design knowledge to see what actually works, what doesn’t and why.

I’m developing a 6-Week Guided DIY Logo & Brand Mentoring Programme for Non-Designers:

  • a practical, clear structure

  • my expert advice and feedback

  • guidance while you build your own logo and visual brand.

Sounds good? Join the waitlist for the first test round of the programme.

No commitment at this stage. Waitlist subscribers will be the first to hear about more details and get first dibs for one of the limited spots.

You don’t need another tool. You need to know what works.

We have more design tools, templates and AI options available than ever, but having access to the tools does not automatically give you the design knowledge and experience to judge the result. Just like buying a pair of scissors doesn't make you a hair dresser.

You are not sure what you need to do first, you second guess every decision or spend hours tweaking things only to still not know whether it's working or not. So you end up with inconsistent or non existent marketing and the business you are trying to build is going nowhere in a hurry.

This is the gap my programme is designed to fill. You are still creating your own logo and visual brand, but you will have a step-by-step process to follow and my expert feedback along the way.

This may be for you if you are:

  • building your own logo and brand on a small budget

  • are not a designer and unsure which visual designs actually work

  • wanting expert feedback on your logo and brand

You don't need to be a designer, but you need to be comfortable using adequate software to create your brand.

This is not for you if you break into hysterical laughter when someone suggests you DIY your branding and design!

What's in the 6-week programme?

  • Brand Foundations Workbook

  • Weekly live online group mentoring sessions

  • Weekly branding and design tasks

  • Weekly individual feedback (one submission each week per participant)

  • Meet other business owners in the same boat

The first round will be limited to 6 participants so I can provide useful feedback while learning what works best for the group.

As prepareation for the programme you will get access to my Brand Foundations Workbook. So if you were getting ready to start with the logo, put down your pen! Before you create anything visual, you will work out the foundations supporting your visual brand.

Using my Brand Foundations Workbook, you will define your:

  • business direction

  • purpose and values

  • ideal audience

  • market positioning

  • brand personality

  • naming and byline

  • voice and core messaging

While going through the workbook you will not only lay the foundations for your visual brand but also start putting together your very own brand guide.

Two big ticks before we even start week one:

☑️ Brand Foundations = Essential for building your visual brand

☑️ Starting your Brand Guide = Essential for using design tools effectively

Week 1:
Visual direction

We will review the workbook and use the results to create a plan which will guide your visual brand development.

You will identify:

  • what your brand needs to communicate

  • what your ideal audience needs to see and understand

  • how your brand should feel

  • how your brand should never feel

  • where you want to position the business

  • what your visual brand needs to help you achieve

Outcome: A visual brief to guide the work ahead.

Week 2:
Research and inspiration

Transform your written brief into a visual one. Gather inspiration and create a moodboard or a look and feel you want your brand to achieve.

You will:

  • review any elements you may have already created

  • collect visual references

  • explore how your purpose, positioning and personality could translate visually

  • create a mood or inspiration board

Outcome: A moodboard visualising the look and feel you want to achieve.

Week 3:
Logo

Your logo is not your entire brand, but it needs to function properly as part of it.

You will learn:

  • what a logo needs to do

  • what a logo cannot do

  • common logo structures

  • why legibility, simplicity and scalability matter

  • how to avoid common DIY logo mistakes

  • how to test your logo in realistic situations

Outcome: A functional logo direction ready for refinement.

Week 4:
Colour, typography and supporting elements

Build the wider visual system around your logo.

You will explore:

  • a practical primary and supporting colour palette

  • colour contrast and readability

  • fonts that reflect your brand personality

  • headline and body typography

  • simple typography hierarchy

  • optional graphic elements such as shapes, patterns, icons, backgrounds or illustrations

Outcome: A set of visual elements that work together.

Week 5:
Build your visual brand system

Bring the individual elements together and test whether the brand works as a system.

You will:

  • combine your logo, colours, fonts and supporting elements

  • test the brand in realistic situations

  • identify gaps or unnecessary elements

  • define simple rules for using the elements consistently

Outcome: A visual brand system ready to be rolled out.

Week 6:
Brand guide and rollout plan

Turn your work into something you can continue using after the programme ends.

You will:

  • document the key elements of your visual brand

  • define basic logo, colour, typography and image guidance

  • consider how to use your brand guide with a contractor, Canva, Adobe Express, AI-assisted design tools or similar platforms

  • decide what needs to be created or updated first

  • develop a rollout plan

Outcome: A working brand guide and plan for putting your brand into use.

What will you leave with?

If you complete the work, you should finish with:

☑️ Brand foundations

☑️ A visual direction

☑️ A functional logo or logo direction

☑️ Colour palette

☑️ Font choices

☑️ Supporting visual elements where appropriate

☑️ Brand guide

☑️ Rollout plan

☑️ More practical design knowledge

☑️ More ability to use your brand competently

The aim is not to turn you into a graphic designer. It is to give you enough knowledge, structure and expert feedback to make better decisions and build a visual brand that can support your business.

What is not included?

This is a mentoring programme. You will be creating your own logo and visual brand with my guidance and feedback.

Not included:

❌ Done-for-you logo or brand design

❌ Unlimited individual feedback or revisions

❌ Professional redrawing of logo artwork

❌ Production of all final logo files

❌ Sales and marketing material design

❌ Website design or copywriting

❌ Legal or trademark advice

If you develop a strong logo direction but need professional help finalising it, Logo Finalisation and Logo Kit Creation will be available as an optional add-on.

And if you decide that DIY branding is harder than expected and would prefer to hand the work over, we can also discuss the right done-for-you option.

(If you decide to go with a done-for-you approach, up to 50% of the programme fee can be credited towards the project.)

And who is the mentor?

Hi, I am Linda aka Fräulein Baehr. I am a German born, Auckland based, Kiwi by choice, brand developer and graphic designer.

With more than 25 years of experience, I know how much knowledge and judgement sits behind effective logo and brand design. We have all the tools available, but knowing what works, what doesn’t and why is a different story altogether.

I’m not creating this programme to turn you into a designer. I want to give you access to the practical design knowledge and expert feedback that are usually missing when you build your own brand.

We don't know what we don't know. So I will help you understand what needs your attention, explain why and give you clear direction on what to do.
